This work contrasts the stone structure of Telford's 1805 road bridge at Tongland, built to designs by Alexander Nasmyth and the ironwork of the former railway bridge.  The stone piers of the railway bridge were demolished in 2005.  The Dee at Tongland was a favourite fishing spot for the Kirkcudbright artists and is mentioned in The Five Red Herrings.

An exhibition marking the 250th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Telford may be seen at the Stewartry Museum, Kirkcudbright, 1st September to 6th October, 2007
