Description: This painting is from the left bank of the Cree, near the site of the suspension bridge and looking downstream, with the spire of Penninghame Kirk, some of the Gorbals houses and Minnigaff carpet mill clearly visible.  It is a valuable view of Newton Stewart in the years before photographs became widely available.  The work was bequeathed to the museum by Douglas Muir of Bargrennan.
