Robert William Billing was an architect, landscape painter and illustrator in oil and watercolour.  Best known for The Baronial and Ecclesiastical Antiquities of Scotland (1845-1852), "containing 240 of his own illustrations which influenced a generation of taste".  McEwan (see bibliography).


Although an Englishman based in London and exhibiting at the Royal Academy, his most important work was of Scottish subjects.  McEwan (see bibliography).
