De Nune was a prolific painter in both Edinburgh and Dumfries. There are examples of his work in both the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery of Scotland. A portrait of Elizabeth Stewart of Shambellie, painted by De Nune in the 1740s can be seen at the National Museum of Costume, Shambellie, New Abbey.
