Dobson painting of Keir Hardie is in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.  SNPG also has files on Henry Raeburn Dobson (1901 - 1985) and Cowan Dobson (1893- 1980). 

There is a portrait of H J Dobson by Cowan Dobson.  Illustrated Sanderson's Scottish Life and Character (see bibliography).  The illustrations were popularised in post cards by Rafael Tuck.  His son Cowan Dobson, 1893-1980, is said to have rented Kenmure Castle, New Galloway in 1930s and 1940s to entertain and paint fashionable sitters.


Reference in Stewartry Museum file to working in Dalry.  Dalry model paid 6d per hour c1912.
