Susan was born at Barlay Mill, Gatehouse.  The family were in Edinburgh at the time of the 1851 census.

Susan returned to Gatehouse with her mother in the mid 50s.

Lived at Ardmore , Gatehouse, 1897 to 1909

Exhibited at Royal Scottish Academy from Gatehouse of Fleet, 1867 and from London home of her brother Thomas in 1868 and 1883  Exhibited from Ardmore as Mrs Walthew, 1899.

Portrait of Susan Faed painted about 1840 by her brother Thomas. 


Notes:

Sister of James, John and Thomas.  Sat frequently for her brothers and was the model for a number of their works.  Like many Victorian women Susan spent much time looking after her parents and later her brother John.

In 1887 at the age of 59 she married a widower John Walthew of Stockport, who died two years later.
