Notes:

Painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes. Father of Dorothy Johnstone.

G W Johnstone was a native of Glamis.  Early in his career he painted scenes of the Trossachs before turning his attention to the Borders.  His obituary notes that in his Border works "he was very successful in representing, in such works as "Borderland" and "Canobie Lea," the aspects of the scenery of the Border, with its woodlands and streams and changeful sky."
