Notes:

William Daniell and Richard Ayton set off on their tour of Britain in 1813.  In 1814 they travelled from Holyhead to Wigtown or Portpatrick by late August or early September.  Daniell  returned himself in 1815 travelling  from Wigtownshire  to Dundee.  While the intention had been to travel by boat much of the vast project was undertaken on foot or on horseback. The following aquatints were done in Dumfries and Galloway:- Caerlaverock Castle, Kirkcudbright, Cardoness Castle, Carsluith, Creetown, Wigtown, Mull of Galloway, Dunskey Castle and Portpatrick.
